The History Of All Saints' Wickhambrook

Dedications

As in most churches there are many items dedicated to the memory of loved ones or people who were greatly revered by all. The following is a list of items dedicated to various people in the church.

Baptistry

The brass plaque reads "This Baptistery has been formed to the Glory of God and in memory of Thomas Crosby Clayden of Boyden End, Wickhambrook. 20th August 1955".

Lectern Bible

On the cover of the bible is written

"Wickhambrook, Alfred Hanbury, S.C.L. Vicar, J.P. Pryke, J. Savill (Church Wardens), 1855".

Bellows

To commemorate the long service as clock winder and bell ringer the following dedication can be found on the miniature bellows presented to William Stutters. It reads "William Stutters For many years clock winder and bell ringer at All Saints' Wickhambrook from a grateful congregation 1992"

Curtains (Tower)

The wooden plaque reads "Alice Shave, 5th November 1908 - 6th September 1992. A dear friend of Wickhambrook, these curtains were given in her memory".

Font Cover

On the wooden Font cover is inscribed "To the Glory of God and in ever loving memory of Robert Hugh Wilkin, born 1872, died 1943. Also his wife Fanny Louisa, born 1876, died 1954".

Credence Table

In the sanctuary is a credence table with the following inscription. "The Sanctuary is extended and this Credence given to the glory of God and in Memory of John Dorrington Batt, MC, MRCS, LRCP, physician and friend to this parish and district for 35 years. AD 1920-1955".

Organ

The brass plaque reads "To the Glory of God and in grateful remembrance of George Gilby for 48 years organist of this church who died 28th November 1920".

Beneath the plaque scratched on the wooden side of the organ is decipherable the names of a number of the "organ blowers".

Reading Stand

The brass plaque reads "To the memory of Elizabeth Jennings beloved wife of H.V. Jennings who fell asleep 13th April 1948".

Brass Candlesticks

The pair of altar candlesticks are dedicated to the Cook's. One is engraved "RIP John William Cook" and the other "RIP Maria Cook".

Wine and Water Cruets

The silver wine cruet has the following dedication "In memory of Evelyn Mary Durston 1901-1990" and the silver water cruet "In memory of Claude Durston 1903-1996".

Book Stand

This is probably not originally from All Saints' church as the inscription reads "To the Glory of God and in loving memory of H.G. Chalker, Ellen Salter and William her son who worshipped in this church of St Michael's Coslany Xmas 1896".
