All Saints' Restoration - Phase Three
Ready to go! (October 2004)
We can now report in full on the Phase 3 restoration work. We were
given a grant from English Heritage in August of £113,000 on a total
of £140,000 worth of eligible costs. The work involves, the
re-roofing of the nave and repairs to its timbers, the removal of
condemned electrical wiring and repairs to the North East aisle
window. The erection of the scaffolding began at the start of
October and now is fairly extensive both inside and outside the nave
of the church. Due to the extensive scaffolding inside the church's
nave services are now restricted to the chancel area where they will
continue until it becomes too cold. At this point services will be
transferred to the Benefice Hall. We still have much work that
either has no funding currently in place or is deemed non grant
aid-able. This includes electrical rewiring, improved heating and
lighting, nave pew platform alterations & porch roof repairs and new
glazing. The restoration committee is currently looking at various
potential funding opportunities and approaches are currently
underway to a number of grant organizations. As always we will let
people know the outcome of applications made. The re-roofing work
will probably take until March 2005 during which time we will keep
people posted on developments.
