Philip retires as Reader after 51 years of service

The Bansfield benefice celebrated Harvest festival at Wickhambrook All Saints' church on Sunday the 19th September. Gifts of tinned and dry food were donated to the Gatehouse Bury St Edmunds. But that was not the only thing being celebrated that day; we were also marking the retirement of Dr Philip Draycott as Reader after 51 years.

Philip gave the address at the service and talked about his experiences as Reader over the years. He agreed that 51 years was a very good innings and time for him to step down from the role as Reader. Revd Eve Bell, the Bansfield Benefice's Rector also spoke about the work Philip had done over the years. It then just remained for Philip to be presented with a certificate by Barbara Hill on behalf ofBishop Mike inferring the honorary position of Reader Emeritus.

Refreshments were taken in the Benefice Hall next door to All Saints' church after the service and people had the opportunity to chat with Philip and congratulate him on his long service and well-deserved retirement.

Thank you Philip for your service over the years!
